IWMA conducts Enviro - an annual programme on environment for school children, in collaboration with Science Olympiad Foundation.

Enviro 2019

This year is the 11th Edition of ENVIRO on 27th and 28th July. Over 510 students from 165 Schools from 3 categories junior,middle and senior were participated in the program. Events such as cartoon drawing, mascot designing and live news reporting to draw the creative talent of school children starting from 3rd Standard. The topics chosen such as “We can change the world”, “Global water crisis”, “Waste management” are so relevant. In his address, Chief Guest for the event on 28th July 2019 Mr. R. Ramsubbu, Joint Chief Environmental Engineer, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board shared the following strong messages on save energy, water, reduce, recycle, reuse waste, green the surroundings. Speaking on the occasion as Guest of Honour, Mr. Biju Balendran, Managing Director & CEO, Renault – Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltdtalked about the role of students as future citizens of country and their role along with their parents in spreading the good practices of environment. Further he motivated the students to follow 90-60 -30 rule with regard to non-use of cell phones. First 90 minutes of day to be spent on yoga/exercise and exposure to morning sun. 60 minutes of day after work to be spent with family and last 30 minutes before sleep to reflect on the day that went by and how one could learn and improve and end the day by thanking divine forces. This would help minimise the health impact effects of cell phone. Ms. Malathi Sridharan, Regional Coordinator, SOF gave Welcome Address Prof T.S. Natarajan, Professor at IIT Tirupathi conducted live exciting demonstration of scientific experiments to kindle interest in science among the students.

Enviro 2018

Enviro 2018, 10th successful program was conducted at IIT Madras on 28th & 29th of July 2018. Around 150 schools & 400 students had participated in the program. Students from various schools in and around Chennai participated in competitions such as Fun with Crayons for Junior, Logo Designing for Middle, Newspaper Cartoon Strip for Senior & Photo Story Competition for Super Senior Category. The topics for the two day competition was Related to Environment. ECAP (E-Waste Collection and Awareness Program) & YES (Young Environmental Scientist) 2018 was launched during this event by Dr.C.V. Krishnamurthy, Associate Professor, Department of Physics. A talk on Paper Recycling was given by WOW (Well being Out of Waste) team to highlight the importance of used paper recycling among school children. Dr. G. Sivaraman, BSMS., Ph.D., was invited as the Chief Guest for the event. His speech was well received by students, parents & teachers. The Events were presided by our Chairman Mr. K. Baskaran. SOF rendered us a great support for the success of the program.

Enviro 2017

Enviro 2017 was conducted at IIT Madras on 22nd & 23rd of July 2017. Students from various schools in and around Chennai participated in competitions such as Story Writing for Junior, Quiz for Middle and Poster/Banner designing for senior school children on topics related to environment. A Science Awareness Workshop for teachers was also conducted. Dr. T. S. Natarajan, Professor, IIT Madras demonstrated interesting science experiments during the workshop. ECAP (E-Waste Collection and Awareness Program)& YES (Young Environmental Scientist) 2018 was launched during this event. Hon’ble Thiru. Justice.Dr. T.N Vallinayagam, Judge, LokAdalat, High Court of Madras was invited as the Chief Guest for the event. The Events were presided over by our Chairman Mr. S.Mani and Secretary Mr. K. Baskaran. SOF rendered us a great support for the success of the programme.

Students from various schools in and around Chennai participated in competitions such as Pencil sketching caption for Junior, Essay writing for Middle and Quiz for Seniorschool children on topics related to environment. A Science Awareness Workshop for the YES 2017programme was also conducted. Dr. T. S. Natarajan, Professor, IIT Madras demonstrated interesting science experiments during the workshop. Mr. Arun Krishnamurthy, Founder, Environmentalists Foundation of India was invited as the Chief Guest for the event.

Students from various schools in and around Chennai participated in competitions like Collage making with caption, Just a minute and Debate for School Children on topics related to environment. A Science Awareness Workshop for the YES 2016 programme was also conducted. Dr. T. S. Natarajan, Professor, IIT Madras demonstrated interesting science experiments during the workshop. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Ismail, M.Sc., Ph.D., D.Sc., Soil Biologist and Ecologist from Eco Science Foundation was invited as the Chief Guest for the event.

Around 300 students from schools in and around Chennai participated in competitions like Poster Making, Adzap, Best out of waste Competitions for School Children on topics related to environment. Enviro 2012

Enviro 2012 had a participation of around 62 schools in Chennai. The programme was conducted at IIT Madras, Chennai. The event was presided over by Mr. M.S. Balaji, Managing Director of M/s Kasa Anlagen India Pvt. Ltd. Competitions like poster making, quiz, essay wiring, drawing and painting, elocution on environmental conservation topics were conducted.

Enviro 2011

Enviro 2011 drew participation of around 61 schools in Chennai. The programme was conducted on 2nd and 3rd July 2011 at the Railway Officer’s Club, Nungambakkam, Chennai. The event was presided over by Mr. Anand Sundaresan, Managing Director, Schwing Stetter India Private Limited. Competitions like elocution, debate, drawing, essay writing on topics of environmental conservation were conducted.

Enviro 2010

Enviro-2010 had participation from nearly 350 students from primary, secondary and high schools from 80 schools in Chennai on modeling and posters on Rain Water Harvesting, Global Warming and Climate Change. The event was presided over by Prof T S Natarajan of IIT Chennai.

The Enviro-2009 drew participation from more than 75 schools in Chennai. The programme was conducted in TNPCB auditorium with competitions on Debate, Elocution and Essay writing on environmental issues. Mr. Nirmal of EXNORA presided over the function.
